Face lift and neck lift

Facial and neck creases, lines and wrinkles, loose and sagging skin—all these can change the way we look as we age. These effects can happen even sooner for people who have had lots of sun exposure. Cosmetic surgery can improve these signs of aging, and help put your appearance more in line with how young you feel.

There are several surgical options for reducing wrinkles and sagging skin on your face, and Dr. Marshall will discuss whether to use the traditional method for a face or neck lift or an alternative, more limited procedure.

With the traditional approach, the incision usually begins inside your hairline at your temples and continues around to the bottom of your ear. Dr. Marshall may redistribute the fat in your face and neck, and also re-position the underlying tissue to lift the deeper layers of your face as well. Your skin is then draped over your new facial contours, with the excess skin trimmed away. This method provides the most improvement in facial wrinkles and sagging skin.

An alternative procedure uses shorter incisions that extend around the lower part of your ear only. This method may be combined with incisions inside the lower eyelids or under the upper lip. This may be a good choice for people who want a more subtle change in their appearance.

Surgery to improve sagging jowls and loose neck skin usually starts with an incision in front of your ear lobe, continuing under your ear and into the hairline at your lower scalp. As with a face lift, fat and tissue are re-positioned, and the skin is redistributed and the excess skin is trimmed away.

After a face or neck lift, Dr. Marshall will give you specific instructions on how to care for your incisions. You may have a bandage for a few days to minimize swelling and bruising, and cold compresses can also help. Your stitches will be removed in about five days, but it’s a good idea to avoid vigorous physical activity for the first two weeks after your surgery. It usually takes two to three weeks to fully recover from these surgeries.
